Diaper Bags For Dads - Papas Got A Brand New Bag

Today's dads are more hands-on than ever before and their involvement is being rewarded with parenting gear designed with men in mind. Many items that have typically been designed for the maternal side of the parental equation are now being introduced in masculine styles, colors, and fabrics, including diaper bags, baby carriers, and strollers.

For many parents a diaper bag is such an essential part of baby's first years that it only makes sense to give daddy his due ? one simply cannot expect a man to tote around the little one's belongings in a feminine diaper bag with dignity and enthusiasm. In that scenario dad will spend more time trying not to be seen than attending to baby.

The selection of a diaper bag for dad is dependant on many factors, but for those new to the game we offer these simple pointers:

?If in doubt, go for function over form, but get as close to your idea of the perfect marriage of both as possible.

?Consider where and when you'll be using you diaper bag most often ? trips to the park, for example, will require a more durable exterior, (water resistant is always a plus), than, say, daily trips to day care or indoor events.

?A changing pad is almost a requirement if you'll be out and about with baby. One diaper change without one in a public place and you'll know what we mean.

?The number of pockets and compartments you'll want are dependant on your personal needs, (do you tend to take everything but the kitchen sink or travel light?), but we recommend at least one or two pockets on both the exterior and interior of the bag, and preferable at least one with a zipper or closure.

?Determine the carrying style you are most comfortable with ? most men opt for a backpack or messenger style diaper bag, and some diaper bags convert from one to the other. We've found that the backpack style bags and messenger bags worn across the body leave hands most free for dealing with baby. Adjustable straps allow you to get the most comfortable fit for your body.

?Consider the extras. Again, depending on your personal style and needs you may wish to look for these items in a diaper bag: wipe case, wipeable and/or washable bag for soiled items, insulated bottle holder(s), external pockets for baby bottles, sippy cups, or your own water bottle, carbiner clip for keys.

Designer diaper bags for men run the gamut from basic black messenger style diaper bags for under $55 to sports-themed diaper bags such as celebrity favorite Timi & Leslie's Magic diaper bag made from authentic basketball leather to Diaper Dude's rock and roll guitar diaper bag and everything in between. With the growing array of choices on the market, isn't it time the papa in your life got a brand new bag of his own?

Moral Armors Irrational Parenting, Part Iii
Not Letting Them Think. We all implicitly know that anything questioning the process of cognition itself will be met with massive irritation, making us want to respond with "Don't question my capacity to think." Their moronic reasoning to show how logic is derived, provokes the thought, "Don't try to tell me how to think." Forcing their opinions down your throat earns the response, "Don't tell me what to think." Some parents show no respect for personal boundaries long after childhood, straightening your clothes, your hair, invading your privacy-incessantly buzzing around you like a mosquito. This belittlement implies incompetent dependency-a fundamental insult to Man or animal-any way you slice it. These actions tick every...(related: Parenting)

Parenting Your Teenager: What To Do When Your Teen Feels Left Out
On a recent Saturday evening, I noticed a young teen-age girl crying alone. My first impulse was to go over and check on her. Worried that my approach might be taken the wrong way, I just smiled at her and went in the store to meet my wife. I forgot about it until we came out to the car.Same girl, still crying. My wife went to see what was going on. Turns out that the girl was upset because she'd been treated badly by some friends and felt left out. My wife told her she went through that, too, as a kid. Then the girl hit her with the big question:"Does it get any better?"Does it? Well, yes and no.The yes part...(related: Parenting)

    The Long Journey Home
Once upon a time, I thought I had it all. I had a child, a career, the world at my feet. Or, so I thought. With the birth of my second son, my whole world changed. I moved into a new home, got a new car, made new friends. The biggest change, though, was internal. Suddenly, my head started listening to my heart a little more. My career and moving up in the corporate world suddenly became something I HAD to do, because I needed to pay the bills. Suddenly, I wanted what other people had. I wanted to stay home with my kids and take care of my family.Wait a minute, who was this straight from 1950 woman taking over my brain? Was it post-partum insanity or had someone mysteriously slipped me some sort of anti-feminist drug? I was raised to believe that I was EQUAL to every man, in fact, maybe even a little better. I believed that I should not...(related: Parenting)

    Fuzzy Names, Sweet Names
As with everything, names go through cycles of change with passing generations. I also tend to think that names have improved immensely since the first Elmas, Minervas, Bufords, and Alfreds graced the baby's room wearing appropriate nametags on their cribs.A country of tradition, we still hold tightly to such commoners as Becky, Wendy, Mike and Bill. And being the trendsetters of a diverse time, we also like originality. Girls are acquiring sophistication with names such as Breanna and Kyla while boys are being called Dusty and Cameron, cute yet charming. I do like these names. I even think that the not-so-unique ones are fine. These names have humility an...(related: Parenting)

    Bedtime And Sleep Habits
Bedtime and children's sleep habits can cause nightmares - for parents, that is! Often at the end of a long day all you want is a little peace and time for yourself. After all, you have probably devoted the entire to the service of children in some form.Whether it is putting bread on the table or being gainfully employed in an unpaid position as housekeeper and cook, you deserve a break.Come on, kids, be reasonable! But children do not always see bed-time from a parent's perspective. They often dispute calls for bed and complain loudly that it is too early.None of the other kids at school go to bed at 8 o'clock, Mum. "It's not fair." is the sort o...(related: Parenting)

The Laid Back Parents Guide To Teaching Your Child To Read
At first I thought of titling this article "The Lazy Parent's Guide" but then I realized that most parents aren't lazy, but they may have a slightly different philosophy about children and learning. If you're a big reader yourself or if you're homeschooling, you're probably concerned about how to teach your child to read. Reading is one of the most important skills a person can learn, and a grea...(related: Parenting)
